How to Design Spaces in Your Home to Appear Larger

Seeing as we are all spending a lot more time at home, it’s all too easy to start feeling a little stir crazy! Spaces throughout your house can start to appear overwhelming and cramped, leaving you feeling as though you need to escape.

There is nothing worse than feeling as though you are within a small space that is encompassing you in a negative way! After all, your home is your sanctuary. Therefore, it should be designed in an enjoyable way!

By designing spaces in your home to appear larger, you can truly relax and feel at ease! That’s why, here at White Oak Interiors, as Chicago interior designers, we have gathered some great tips to assist you with doing so. If you are all set to take in some inspirational advice, be sure to continue reading:

  • Showcase Comforting Colors. When designing a small space, it would be ideal to choose a paint color that is light and airy, such as white-tones, light blues, or mellow yellows! With a bright color, your space will appear more open, as dark colors will showcase a more enclosed display when presented within a small space, which certainly isn’t ideal.
  • The Arrangement of Your Furniture. Instead of having your furniture placed directly up against your walls, have your pieces pulled away, as a way to present the illusion of spaciousness. If you place a piece of furniture against the wall in a small space, it will have your room appearing cramped. So, know that even just a few inches of space between the wall and your furniture will highlight an entirely different sense of style.
  • Utilize Mirrors. You can create your space appear larger with the use of mirrors! By hanging a mirror, or an array of mirrors, among your wall, you can reflect light, which will have your room evoking a more bright and inviting appeal. In addition, mirrors will pose as a beautiful focal point that will present the illusion of depth within your space, having it appearing larger than it actually is.

The last thing you should feel is uncomfortable within your own home! After all, you deserve to experience nothing but relaxation within each and every space. These are just a few tips that you could utilize to create your own spaces to appear larger.
