Absolutely no clutter. To create a relaxing ambience within your bedroom, it must be clean and de-cluttered. You can bring a refreshing feeling to your space by deep cleaning. Pull everything out, get rid of any unneeded or unwanted items, and clean it up. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself to let go of items that you won’t ever use, or don’t really need. This will allow you to feel at peace, rather than cramped or suffocated by muddle.
Address anything that may be broken. With our busy life, it’s all too easy to forget about the little things that require our attention, such as that remote that needs batteries, or that burned out light bulb. These can just sit in the back of your mind, preventing you from feeling at peace. Although you can fix everything at once, you don’t have to. Make a list of everything that needs your attention, and create deadlines for you to finish them. This will help you feel comfortable, as well as remove any nagging feeling that you still have work to do.
Remove any storage beneath the bed. Whether you have a lot of extra space or are quite limited, storage underneath the bed is completely unnecessary. This limits the space for your energy to flow, as every item brings its own energy to your room, especially underneath your bed. Don’t make your energy fight with the energy of unnecessary items. Remove all storage under your bed, even if it’s extra bedding. Plus, entering your room and being able to see the storage beneath your bed is unappealing to the eye. So, removing it will overall create and inviting appearance.
It’s important to feel serene within your own bedroom, as this is where you will rest your head at the end of the day. These easy tricks will help you Feng Shui your bedroom. Here at White Oak Interiors, we want to help you feel zen within your home. If you are looking to conduct some interior design within your home, be sure to contact us today.
“There should be as many (styles) of houses as there are kinds (styles) of people and as many differentiations as there are different individuals. A man who has individuality has a right to its expression and his own environment.” – Frank Lloyd Wright. White Oak Interiors your one stop shop for Crystal Lake Furniture and Accessories to implement a Frank Lloyd Wright inspired residential interio design.
Walter Gale House in Oak Park, Illinois
With an organic style characterized by smooth, clean lines, open floor plans and natural elements, the influence of legendary architect and designer Frank Lloyd Wright lives on today. Learn more about characteristics of his style so that you can decorate your home and pay homage!
Unifying, but Unique Look
With the thought that everything in a space should complement each other, Wright believed furnishings should serve as an extension of the home. Simple furniture that comprised of geometric shapes was used often in his work and they added a simple kind of beauty to the home. Oak and other woods provide a timeless appearance that is also in line with his style and Arts and Crafts style pieces can also work well! He would also incorporate built-in pieces in the design of his homes that included (but were not limited to) window seats, desks, bookshelves and lighting. This helped create the unique interiors he felt each home should have.
Free-Standing and Family-Friendly Functionality
To create open floor plans that achieved a beautiful natural flow, Wright would decorate homes with moveable furniture, as well. Chairs, beds, tables and couches could all be moved around easily to change the aesthetics of a space. Some of his most popular free-standing pieces were in the dining room: a large table with high-backed chairs. This design was made to strengthen the family unit by blocking the outside world from the dining table.
Minimal Materials Crystal Lake Furniture and Accessories
By limiting the use of materials in a room, Wright felt that this could make a space simpler, but more expressive. Oak was a material that he worked with often and extensively, especially in his own home. Natural materials were also used in most of the accents he featured in his work. Geometric stained glass windows, pottery, murals and sculptures fit along seamlessly in his designs to add to the whole of the home.
There was a method to Wright’s genius. When asked about his work on interiors, Wright said, “They are all mere structural details in its character and completeness, heating apparatus, light fixtures, the very chairs, tables, cabinets and musical instruments, where practicable, are of the building itself. Nothing of appliances or fixtures is admitted purely as such where circumstances permit the full development of the building scheme. Floor coverings and hangings are a part of the house as the plaster on the walls or the tiles on the roof.” By understanding Wright’s philosophy on design, you can appreciate the method to his madness and incorporate changes into your home that honor his vision!

Proudly displaying features that homeowners might otherwise consider eyesores, industrial design is raw and has the look and feel of a warehouse. Despite the style’s rawness, it is thoughtfully put-together and can look amazing! White Oak Interiors (Barrington Remodeling) can assist you or do your whole project!
This style mainly deals with a neutral color palette. Grays are popular, but paired with white, offer a crisp and clean feel. Browns can be used as well, but subtle shades work best. This style leans away from bright, bold coloring but everyone styles their own way! There are some lovely industrial homes with bright pops of color.
Metals! Leaning heavily on the use of metals, most kitchens in this style are decked out in stainless steel. Wood also works well and you will often see the two used together. Finishes aren’t always lacquered, either. Depending on the styles incorporated, wood can be grainy and paired with polished steel surfaces!
Flooring – Barrington Remodeling
While wood flooring is a lovely go-to for most interior design styles, concrete is ideal for industrial design. Wood is still a great option, but you can’t beat the rough-edged concrete style. It really holds true to the industrial attitude!
Imperfect paint jobs, exposed bricks, beams and pipes are the main pulls to this style. Because of these characteristics, this style is popular in lofts where some of these elements occur naturally!
Accents – Furniture and Accessories
There are a ton of pieces in this style that pays homage to vintage design, since there are a great deal of them made with metal and wood. Even though this style is pretty minimalistic, you will often see metal accents on walls, statement artwork, unique light fixtures, and tons of repurposed pieces!
Even though this style is modeled after the look of old warehouses, there is nothing boring about it! With cleverly put-together pieces and use of raw materials, industrial design can be interesting and quite unique!

Getting the right sofa for your home is an investment. It will be around for a long time and you need the right one to complement your style, needs, lifestyle and comfort. In your living room, you will probably spend a large amount of time sitting on it and it might also serve as the focal point for your space. Finding the perfect one for your home takes some time but when you find the right one, you’ll be glad you did! White Oak Interiors Remodeling Furniture and Accessories is the perfect place to commission that unique piece of furniture that completes your own living space.
Here are some things to consider:
Is your sofa “for show” to be added to a sitting room or will it be used in family interactions such as a spot to watch movies or cuddle with your sweetie? By figuring out what the main use of your sofa will be, you can determine how soft or firm it should be. This will also help determine the size. If your sofa is more for relaxation, you’ll probably want to buy something fairly large that can sit a few people and is long enough to lie down. It’s good to be mindful of the size of the room. If your living room is fairly small, a large sectional could be a great option. It can help the room keep from being cluttered-looking but also provide the best level of seats and comfort, not to mention it’s great for the taller family members!
Fabric and Fill Remodeling Furniture and Accessories
Do you have kids or pets? Leather and synthetic fibers are easier to clean and more durable than cotton or linen. Slipcovers can help soften the feel and look of any fabric you choose and can also be helpful in keeping your sofa clean. For the fill, feathers are nice and plush but foam helps keep the shape of the furniture. You can choose one or the other, but they also offer sofas with a combination of both!
Is your home more contemporary, traditional or vintage? Think about how your personal style is reflected in a potential sofa. You can always play around with the fabrics, mixing and matching the design style of the piece and reupholstering fabrics to work with your theme. (Think: a vintage style sofa with a country-influenced plaid print.) The legs of the sofa can also determine the style. For example, modern sofas can have wooden, tapered legs. Ask your interior designer what embellishments complement your current style. There are tons of options!
You can get something neutral if you like to change the look of your décor often, using different accents to play around with style. Some people even opt for one big, bold statement piece in their living room instead and get a “look at me” piece in an unconventional color like red or purple. This is all about your personal taste!
Choosing the right sofa for your home can be easy when you take into account what you need. There are tons of styles from loveseats to chaises to sectionals. Need our expert opinion?
